Why Celebrate Black History Month?

Since the first Negro History Week in 1926, other countries around the world, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands have joined the United States in celebrating Black people and their contribution to history and culture.

Today Black History Month continues the discussion of Black people and their contributions through activities such as museum exhibits and film screenings, and by encouraging the study of achievements by African Americans year-round.

If you're looking to become part of a supportive, growth-minded community, and open to having vulnerable discussions - this event is for you!

What It Honors?

Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.

Among the most notable figures often spotlighted during Black History Month are Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought for equal rights for Blacks during the 1950s and ’60s; Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American justice appointed to the United States Supreme Court in 1967; Mae Jemison, who became the first female African-American astronaut to travel to space in 1992; and Barack Obama, who was elected the first-ever African-American president of the United States in 2008.

DAMETRIS

When Jason and I decided to create a candle company during a  pandemic, we weren't just thinking of the, "What If's". We were actually living through it. Not only were we bringing peace and tangible vibes to our family and friends, we'd created a product that is environmentally solid.

When you buy one of our candles or wax melts, you will get a long and low flame burn, no soot (black smoke), and is safe for your animals. Our products also smell amazing.

He is currently the owner of Jones Firearms Coaching in the Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR metro area. Alex brings a refreshing perspective to firearms training for civilians and law enforcement. Alex currently holds NRA instructor certifications in basic pistol, concealed carry concepts and principles and range safety officer. He firmly believes that self-defense with a firearm should be holistic. The self-defender must maintain mental, spiritual, and physical fitness to be optimum in defense and decision making. He prioritizes his training methodology on the “Why and When” to use a firearm as opposed to just “How”. Alex offers a coaching style that is personable, patient and considerate of the different learning styles.
When he is not coaching self-defense, Alex loves to fish and spend time at a welcoming café over coffee and a good book with his wife. Lastly, he lives by the mantra that he is a “Gun Advocate and not a Gun enthusiast.”
